Teaspoon/Tablespoon Boost

My kitchen is pretty well stocked of the essential tools. I don't have everything on my wish list but between my purchases and birthday and Christmas gifts, I can attempt most recipes in my own kitchen. So why did I feel the need to purchase another set of measuring spoons? They are so cute!

A teaspoon or tablespoon in a recipe can change the taste, texture and quality of the dish. Here are a few examples from my personal experience:

A tablespoon of mustard in a vinaigrette helps combine the dressing.

A teaspoon of salt brings out the flavor in chocolate dishes.

Royal icing is even better with a tablespoon of lemon juice.

Missing something in your Chinese food? I'll bet it's a tablespoon of ginger.

An extra teaspoon of pepper in your mashed potatoes is awesome.

Chicken pot pie, meatloaf, and most soups really bloom with a teaspoon of red pepper flakes.

One teaspoon of cayenne pepper stirred into 6 cups of hot chocolate will surprise you.

A tablespoon of sour cream fluffs up scrambled eggs.

On a hot day, a beer with a tablespoon of lime juice is refreshing.

I hope you experiment with your recipes by adding a teaspoon of different flavors to your food. An old favorite can be jazzed up in a new way with just a small simple twist.

  7. I have a similar issue with cookie cutters, they are so cute, and I must have them. Out teaspoons are 5ml like yours, but our tablespoons are 20mls. Those extra 5 can make a huge difference! I think we need to have a world wide cooking standard size to avoid confusion and flat cakes!
